VICTOR IV: AN ARTIST AFLOATING IN AMSTERDAM

Close to the centre of Amsterdam, in the waters of the Amstel River, near the Blue Bridge and Theatre Carré, were once the boat and rafts of graphic artist Victor IV and his wife Ina Munck. In 1961 he moved to Amsterdam, and a few years later he bought the cargo boat. In 1986, sadly, he drowned while performing a repair to his houseboat. Together with the Danish Ina, Victor IV lived there under fairly primitive conditions.

BACK TO 1977

In the beginning of 1977 I had a meeting with him and the friendly, hospitable Ina. This yielded remarkable pictures!

VICTOR IV, EEN LEVEN OP DE AMSTELRIVIER IN AMSTERDAM

Dicht bij het centrum van Amsterdam, in het water van de Amstelrivier, nabij de Blauwe brug en Theater Carré, lagen ooit de boot en vlotten van grafisch kunstenaar Victor IV en zijn vrouw Ina Munck. In 1961 kwam hij naar Amsterdam, en een paar jaar later kocht hij het vrachtschip. In 1986 verdronk hij tijdens het uitvoeren van een reparatie aan zijn woonboot. Victor IV woonde daar onder redelijk primitieve omstandigheden samen met de Deense Ina.

TERUG NAAR 1977

Begin 1977 had ik een ontmoeting met hem en de vriendelijke, gastvrije Ina. Dat leverde opmerkelijke foto’s op!
